Sketches by Tom Godfrey

Although pleasing to the eye, film & CCD images do give a false impression of what the newcomer can expect to see through his or her newly acquired telescope.

These excellent sketches by Tom Godfrey (another astrobuddy from Spacetalk) give a far more realistic assessment of what you can expect to see at the eyepiece, given reasonably dark skies.
A student at Sussex university, Tom has been a serious observer for more than 6 years, owning scopes between 3"-16" in aperture. Amazingly, some of these sketches were made using nothing more 'sophisticated' than a pair of 7X50 binoculars!

	Double Cluster in Perseus There r 5 DSOs here,can u c them? 7x50s in light polluted skies.
	M42, M43 & NGC1981 in Orion Polluted skies and 7x50 binoculars
	M45 in Taurus That superb and familiar cluster of frosty nights
	Lunar Sketch No idea what crater this is--any suggestions??
	NGC129 & NGC225 in Cassiopeia 7x50 binos-neglected clusters in Cass.
	Rosette/NGC2246 and NGC2251 in Monoceros Again with 7x50s from light polluted skies. Needed OIII filter. 2 sketches here.
	Veil Nebula in Cygnus This is a composite of 5 sketches made through a 16" scope in 1996
	M3 Globular Cluster in Canes Venatici as veiwed through an 8" scope
	M77 Seyfert Galaxy in Cetus View of bright active core, possibly harbouring a massive black hole!
	NGC7889 in Cassiopeia Very rich but unresolved in 8"
	NGC4565 (Needle Galaxy) in Coma Berenices In a 16" the dust lane was easy
	NGC891 Galaxy in Andromeda Again, through a 16" scope
	M46 and NGC 2438 in Puppis Puppis Pairing. Dave Eicher drew a complete circle-I disagree
